Signify Egypt and Signify Foundation Partner with Misr El Kheir Foundation to Provide Sustainable Lighting Solutions in Underserved Areas

Signify Egypt and the Signify Foundation have announced a strategic collaboration with the Misr El Kheir Foundation, as part of the Signify Foundation’s “Brighter Communities” program. This initiative aims to bring light to underserved villages in 11 governorates.
The project includes the distribution of various solar lighting solutions, such as portable lights and floodlights, to schools, medical centers, and youth centers—particularly in villages that experience frequent electricity outages. The goal is to ensure that as many citizens as possible in these areas can benefit from reliable, sustainable lighting. These solutions offer safe and energy-efficient alternatives, helping to address energy shortages, weak electricity infrastructure, and recurring outages. In turn, the initiative seeks to improve daily life and enhance the public  services available to residents in these communities.
Commenting on the initiative, Mohamed Saad, President of Signify Africa, stated:
“We believe in the importance of supporting renewable energy solutions and advancing sustainability as part of our commitment to creating long-term positive impact. Through our close collaboration with Misr El Kheir Foundation, we can bring lighting to communities in need across the country. This partnership embodies the value of joint action in addressing challenges caused by unreliable electricity. It is not just about delivering technology, but enabling social-economic development in these communities”.
Reflecting on this partnership from the perspective of the Signify Foundation, Yue Cui, Director at the Foundation said: “Both Signify and the Signify Foundation share the same mission – to bridge the gap for Sustainable Development Goal 7: university access to electricity. As a corporate foundation, we are in a privileged position to leverage Signify’s innovation, technology, and on-the-ground teams to build long-lasting partnerships and impactful programs.
From her side, Eng. Amal Mobada, Director of the Fundraising Department at Misr El Kheir Foundation, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “This collaboration directly serves our people in the most underserved villages. At Misr El Kheir, we prioritize improving the quality of services, and this initiative represents a new chapter in our strategic partnership with Signify Egypt and the Signify Foundation. It builds on our most recent initiative ‘Taqat Nour’, which enhanced the educational environment in schools affiliated with Misr El Kheir Foundation.”
During the initial phase, Misr El Kheir Foundation will distribute 1,500 solar lighting units to 160 schools across 11 governorates, directly benefiting approximately 64,000 students. An additional  6,650 units will be installed in 103 public facilities in villages such as El-Hasna and Nekhel in North Sinai, as well as other rural areas. These installations will support thousands of families, students, and patients in regions affected by weak or disrupted electricity services, highlighting  Signify and Signify Foundation’s commitment to empowering local communities.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Signify’s commitment to innovation for social impact. The solar units are cost-efficient, require no ongoing electricity expenses, and demand minimum maintenance – enabling residents to become more self-reliant in addressing energy challenges.
To ensure the effective use of the lighting units, the Misr El Kheir Foundation will provide local residents with training on installation and maintenance.
This partnership builds on the previous success over the “Taqat Nour” initiative, which delivered over 14,000 LED lighting units to 720 schools across Egypt. The program improved the educational environment for more than 117,000 students nationwide, demonstrating the lasting impact of these partnerships.
